SUMMARY:The Value of Nursing in the Digital Age
DESCRIPTION:Join Professor Dawn Dowding as she delivers the annual RCN Winifred Raphael Memorial Lecture on nursing in a digital age. \nDigital ways of working have become routine for many parts of our lives\, including in health and care environments. In this increasingly technological environment it is crucial that nurses have an understanding of how digital solutions can support nursing practice and care. This lecture will explore the role of digital technologies in nursing practice. It will consider how nursing can adapt to an increasingly digital environment\, drawing on existing research evidence\, and highlighting where we need to develop our knowledge and understanding to meet the demands of a digital future. \nThis event is in person and open to all. Experimental medicine studies and early-phase trials are important in providing mechanistic information\, optimising and de-risking therapeutic development before proceeding to later stage clinical trials. \n  \nThis two-day\, in-person course aims to inspire and prepare researchers embarking on careers in translational and experimental medicine approaches to psychiatric and neurological conditions. \n  \nIt is hosted by the Experimental Medicine and Novel Therapeutics Theme of the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre. \n  \nAbout the course\nThe course will introduce pioneering approaches across research methods\, including neuroimaging\, psychopharmacology\, digital therapeutics\, sleep\, neuromodulation and machine learning/AI\, whilst covering a range of practical essentials – from how to ensure that your study design is feasible\, incorporate participant and patient perspectives\, embed reproducibility and open science\, and foster industry partnerships. DESCRIPTION:TRANSLATION 2025 is a two-day conference bringing together leading researchers to discuss the latest discoveries and innovations in dementia research. \nRecent new drugs impacting dementia’s progression\, new drives in data research\, biomarker studies\, international collaborations\, a growing infrastructure\, effective trials delivery capacity are all important elements for translational research. SUMMARY:The 695th Lord Mayor's Lectures: Innovation In Mental Health & The GALENOS Project: How To Look Back To Move Forward
DESCRIPTION:In mental health science\, there has been frustratingly slow process in understanding and developing new treatments for anxiety\, depression and psychosis\, as well as in predicting which treatments will work for whom and in what contexts. \nSupported by Wellcome\, the Global Alliance for Living Evidence on aNxiety\, depressiOn and pSychosis (GALENOS) tackles the challenges of mental health science research by cataloguing and evaluating the full spectrum of relevant scientific research including both human and preclinical studies. \nGALENOS will also allow the international mental health community—including patients\, carers\, clinicians\, researchers\, policy makers\, industry and funders—to better identify the research questions that most urgently need to be answered. The ultimate aim of GALENOS is to improve patients’ outcomes in real world settings\, by fostering innovation and accelerating growth in mental healthcare in the UK and globally. \nAs Director of Global Alliance for Living Evidence in Anxiety\, Depression and Psychosis (GALENOS)\, Prof Andrea Cipriani presents the lecture. \nPlease register to attend online here.

Although no longer fit for purpose\, staff continue to provide compassionate care in this Grade II listed building that hasn’t changed much from when it was built 200 years ago \nIn partnership with the University of Oxford and partners\, we want to develop a major brain health research and innovation campus. This will comprise: \n\na new state-of-the-art mental health hospital\, offering the best treatment\, care\, and therapeutic environment.\na modern scientific facility for the world-leading brain research taking place at the University of Oxford\, with additional space for biotech\, pharmaceutical and start-up companies.\na new post-graduate college for the University of Oxford focused on medical sciences\, bio-engineering and related disciplines.\n\nThis consultation aims to gather valuable insights and feedback\, on the proposed redevelopment of the Warneford Hospital site. DESCRIPTION:This year’s Royal College of Nursing International Nursing Research Conference will specifically showcase research that addresses the needs of under-served populations. \nThe conference is open to anyone interested in nursing and research. It will be of interest to nurses\, and colleagues in related disciplines\, involved in the development and use of knowledge that impacts on nursing practice or the context in which nurses’ practice. \nPlease note this will be an in-person conference. DESCRIPTION:In person event: Tsuzuki Lecture Theatre \nSpeakers: Dr Heli Harvala (University of Oxford)\, Dr Su Brailsford (NHS Blood and Transplant) \nJoin us this World Blood Donor Day as Su Brailsford and Heli Harvala explore the vital intersection of maintaining blood safety and promoting inclusivity within the NHS Blood and Transplant service. Dr. Brailsford from NHS Blood and Transplant will discuss her instrumental role in the ‘For the Individual Assessment of Risk’ (FAIR) Steering group. Discover how this initiative has enhanced equality in donor selection\, especially concerning sexuality\, sexual behaviour\, and minority ethnic communities\, whilst ensuring the highest standards of blood safety. Dr Harvala will share her cutting-edge research on Occult Hepatitis B infection in blood donations.
