SUMMARY:Socio-economic disadvantage inclusion training
DESCRIPTION:We’re delighted to invite you to an informative session (online) on practical tools for socio-economic disadvantage inclusion in health research. This event is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your approach to including people and communities from diverse ethnicities in your research. \nSpeakers: \nDr Heidi Green is a Health Equity and Patient Involvement Specialist and a Creative Qualitative Researcher who co-developed the NIHR INCLUDE Socio-economic disadvantage framework\, which has been designed to aid researchers\, who are designing clinical trials\, to consider barriers to including patients from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds in their trial. The framework can also help researchers to develop strategies to attempt to address such barriers in order to improve the design and conduct of clinical research. \nWith over a decade of experience leading the design and delivery of innovative and award-winning projects\, Heidi is an experienced health equity specialist\, creative qualitative researcher\, and lived experience advocate. Her mission is to embed accessibility and inclusivity into all of the projects she’s involved in\, driving change for those that stand to benefit most. \nA Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre researcher (TBC) will present on how they have included socially disadvantaged communities in their research. \nThere will be lots of opportunities for you to ask questions from experienced and knowledgeable speakers to support your research. \nThese sessions are for: \n\nResearch staff affiliated with the following Biomedical Research Centres: Barts\, Birmingham\, Cambridge\, Moorfields\, Oxford and Oxford Health

SUMMARY:Reaching Beyond the Usual: Inclusive Approaches to Recruitment and Retention
DESCRIPTION:Details \nAs part of our three-part webinar series Reaching Beyond the Usual: Inclusive Approaches to Recruitment and Retention\, we’re delighted to invite you to a live\, interactive online session on practical tools to plan and deliver inclusive health research. \nTitle: How well do you really know your target population? \nSpeaker \nCherish Boxall\, founder of Engage Intelligently\, draws on behavioural science and 14 years of experience setting up and delivering clinical trials and securing competitive research funding\, including two NIHR fellowships. She specialises in turning evidence on inclusion and participant behaviour into practical strategies that work. Expect real-world examples\, actionable tools\, and time throughout the session for your questions. \nWhat to expect\nIn health research\, understanding your target population is critical. This online training session will show you how to: \n\nUnderstand the concept of intersectionality\nRecognise how multiple characteristics intersect to create unique experiences and potential barriers for research participants\nApply segmentation principles to define and reach key population groups\nIdentify various segmentation variables relevant to research (e.g.\, demographic\, geographic\, psychographic\, behavioural)\nTranslate these insights into practical recruitment and retention strategies.\n\nWho is this for\nResearch and staff affiliated with Barts\, Birmingham\, Cambridge\, Moorfields\, Oxford\, and Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centres who want to strengthen inclusive recruitment and retention.

SUMMARY:Local Capacity and Capability for Research
DESCRIPTION:A one-day course designed to provide an understanding of the requirements of an NHS organisation when determining whether to take part in a particular research study as a host. It explains the principles of good study set up\, the information required by the R&D office and where it can be obtained. It introduces delegates to the various systems and documents associated with research and also provides some guidance on developing relationships with key support departments and stakeholders within an NHS organisation. \nCourse Structure \nThe first half of the day concentrates on making delegates familiar with process. The second half is spent putting everything into practice working through an example study. The course is a mixture of traditional trainer presentation with interactive activities and discussions. \nWho is the Course for? \nAll staff working in R&D offices\, who are responsible for assessing\, arranging and confirming local capacity and capability when taking part in research \nSponsors of health research\, particularly those from outside the NHS\, who will get a better insight into the requirements of NHS R&D to ensure that their study and documentation facilitate the process \nResearchers designing studies that will involve the NHS\, particularly those new to NHS research and/or from outside the NHS\, who can get a better insight into the requirements of NHS R&D and ensure that their study and documentation facilitate the process. \nMore information and registration.

SUMMARY:The ‘big shift’ from hospitals to communities
DESCRIPTION:The Cambridge Centre for Health Services Research (CCHSR) is delighted to host Professor Martin Knapp who will present at its Annual Lecture\, taking place at Thursday 6th November 2025\, 12:30-13:30 via Zoom. \n\nRegister here. \n  \nShifting care from hospital to community settings is at the heart of the NHS 10-Year Health Plan for England and wider government policy. This is not a new ambition: ‘care in the community’ was heavily promoted from at least the 1960s for people with mental health problems and learning disabilities. What are the chances of success today? \n  \nThis year’s lecture will be delivered by Professor Martin Knapp\, who will draw on decades of experience and evidence from four key clinical areas: dementia\, mental health\, respiratory and cardiometabolic conditions. Martin Knapp is a Professor of Health and Social Care Policy\, and Professorial Research Fellow (CPEC)\, at the Department of Health Policy at the London School of Economics. He will explore the innovations\, opportunities\, and challenges facing the NHS in achieving this ambitious transformation. \n  \nThe Annual Lecture will be hosted by Jon Sussex\, Chief Economist at RAND Europe and Co-Director of CCHSR\, and RAND Professor Stephen Morris at the University of Cambridge and Co-Director of CCHSR. \n\nThis event will be held online and recorded\, to be published on YouTube. This lecture is open to policy professionals\, media\, researchers\, practitioners and members of the public. \n  \nWe look forward to welcoming you to what promises to be a compelling discussion.

SUMMARY:Social Prescribing: a passing phase or a foundational pillar of the new Neighbourhood Health Service?
DESCRIPTION:University of Oxford Department of Psychiatry Seminar Series \nSocial prescribing is a major new innovation already underway in over 40 countries around the world. A type of personalised care\, social prescribing connects individuals with non-clinical supports and services including arts\, heritage\, exercise\, volunteering\, social groups\, job training\, and financial and housing support. In the UK alone\, there have been an estimated 7 million referrals since the national roll-out in 2019. As the new National Centre for Social Prescribing Data and Analysis\, UCL is working at the forefront of new developments in social prescribing in the UK. This presentation will present new approaches to data that enable us to capture the impact of social prescribing in novel ways\, reveal the latest findings from large-scale clinical trials underway\, and consider how social prescribing is evolving from a Link Worker service to a Social Finance Model and being reconceptualised as part of the new NHS 10 Year Plan. \n  \nThis seminar is hosted in person in the Gelder Room\, to join online\, please use the Zoom details below: \nhttps://zoom.us/j/94567124781?pwd=sVxXabbSWibdU8A9W2clQlG9neRGbQ.1 \nMeeting ID: 945 6712 4781\nPasscode: 470970 \n
