SUMMARY:NIHR Oxford BRC Statistics Hub Lunchtime Seminar: Multilevel modelling in clinical trials
DESCRIPTION:Oxford Health BRC colleagues are welcome to join this lunchtime seminar\, organised by the NIHR Oxford BRC Statistics Hub. \nThe seminar is part of a series. Each seminar is 20 minutes long followed by 10 minutes of Q&A\, and will be held via Microsoft Teams. \nMultilevel modelling in clinical trials \nDr Daphne Kounali\, OCTRU Lead Statistician \nWednesday 9th April 2025\, 1:00-1:30pm \nA multilevel model is a statistical tool used to analyze data with a complex dependence structure\, such as when patients are nested within hospitals or when there are multiple levels of treatment providers and geographic locations. In this seminar\, I will define the different types of structures in clinical trials and discuss various applications of multilevel models\, including incorporating repeated measurements\, accounting for drop-out\, and addressing measurement error. I will demonstrate how realistic assumptions and focusing on structure can help understand contextual effects and heterogeneity in outcomes\, providing more precise estimates of treatment effects and predictions. \nNo registration is required. \nClick here to join the session.

SUMMARY:Getting the most out of IRAS
DESCRIPTION:Course Description: \n\nBeing able to provide a full\, complete and accurate IRAS submission should help to make your approval process run much more smoothly\, but many people struggle with some aspects of IRAS. This half day course is designed to supplement the existing IRAS and HRA guidance by working through the standard and combined review IRAS systems as well as the amendments section in a live environment.  We will concentrate on those questions and functions that many applicants struggle with\, such as: \nHow to complete the project filter?\nWhat is the most effective way to navigate the system?\nHow do I transfer the project to other collaborators?\nThe course will give you the opportunity to ask questions about both the system and the submission process and understand the best way to ensure your application fully reflects the detail of your research. \nCourse Structure \nThe course will work through the different parts of the IRAS system: \n\n\nStandard IRAS\nIRAS for Amendments\nCombined Review IRAS\n\nWe will look at how each one is used and how to complete and submit an application. We will concentrate on those parts of the system that most often cause issues for applicants. \nThe course ends with a short quiz to help consolidate your learning. \nWho is the Course for? \nAnyone who has to create and submit an IRAS application and those who support applicants. The course is relevant to NHS\, academic and industry researchers.

SUMMARY:Regulatory Inspection Ready
DESCRIPTION:Course Description: \nThis course is aimed at those who deliver research in a healthcare setting either in a Sponsor team or as a Host\, and that maybe subject to regulatory inspection. Preparation for Inspection is critical but compliance driven from preparation rather than from quality systems can lead to poor practice and Inspection findings. \nLast minute changes just prior to a visit can be very unhelpful and in some cases misleading and so this course will help delegates understand how to become inspection-ready for any inspection. Delegates will learn strategies that build confidence for an inspection from any of the regulators for example the MHRA\, Human Tissue Authority or Human Embryology & Fertilisation Authority. \nCourse structure \nThis is a practical course delivered by experienced NHS R&D managers who work in the NHS and have direct experience of managing regulatory inspection in their organisations.  Sessions include slide presentations but are also interactive and an opportunity to learn and share with peers. An essential workbook will be provided to all delegates. \nWho is the Course for? \nThe course is designed for all staff involved in research management or for those who want to learn more about the Inspection process. This might include R&D managers\, Sponsor representatives\, quality managers\, facilitators\, research governance staff\, research nurses\, pharmacy teams\, study coordinators and investigator site staff.

SUMMARY:Peer Coaching for Career Development (PeCo)
DESCRIPTION:Applications close Monday 7 April 2025 at 9am \nPeCo is a peer coaching programme  designed to support early career researchers who have completed a PhD to develop coaching skills and insights for their own career development. The programme is led by a professional coach with many years’ experience working with academic researchers. \nMany researchers face similar sorts of challenges in their roles – for example\, repeated fixed-term contracts\, access to senior support\, and time management. PeCo brings together a group of peers at a similar stage\, enabling you to uncover insights relating to navigating issues which you often share with others. Previous participants have found that the programme has helped them build their skills in ways that have helped in management and supervisory elements of their roles.    \nPeCo is deliberately kept at a smaller size to aid discussions and connection\, and to enable greater support from the programme facilitators.  \nParticipants will learn and practice coaching skills in a group setting – helpful for progressing career goals and building your network in mental health research. \nPeCo 2025 consists of 8 sessions from May 2025 to January 2026: \n\nThursday 22 May 2025\, 9.30am-11am online\nThursday 19 June 2025\, 10am-3pm in person coaching skills workshop (Birmingham)\nThursday 10 July 2025\, 9.30am-11am online\nThursday 4 September 2025\, 9.30am-11am online\nThursday 16 October 2025\, 9.30am-11am online\nTuesday 4 November 2025\, 10am-3pm in person MHR Incubator Gathering with alumni from GROW and PeCo (Manchester)\nThursday 11 December 2025\, 9.30am-11am online\nThursday 8 January 2026\, 9.30am-11am online\n\n6 sessions will be hosted online\, and 2 sessions will be face-to-face. Travel costs for in-person sessions will be reimbursed.\nAll participants must commit to attending each of the programme sessions.
