SUMMARY:An Introduction to Health Economics
DESCRIPTION:A foundational understanding of health economics is essential for anyone seeking to design or interpret clinical trials through a value-for-money lens. “An Introduction to Health Economics” provides a clear\, accessible overview of the core principles and terminology that underpin economic evaluation in healthcare. \nThis 1-hour session is specifically designed for researchers\, clinicians\, and trial staff who are new to health economics and plan to attend the subsequent module\, “Integrating Economic Evaluation into Clinical Trials: Mental Health Module.” For participants without prior exposure to economic concepts\, this introductory session is a required prerequisite\, ensuring everyone comes to the main module prepared to engage with applied methods and examples. \nMore information: Microsoft Virtual Events Powered by Teams

SUMMARY:Integrating Economic Evaluation into Clinical Trials: Mental Health Module
DESCRIPTION:The session is suited to anyone involved in designing\, running\, or managing brain and mental health trials who wants to incorporate a health economic perspective: clinical investigators\, trial managers\, research nurses\, and other professionals seeking introductory guidance. The material is accessible without an economics background\, although very basic familiarity with core concepts is helpful. If you are completely new to health economics\, we recommend attending the 1-hour “An introduction to Health Economics” session first. \nMore information: Microsoft Virtual Events Powered by Teams

SUMMARY:NMAHPPs Research Careers Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Calling all nurses\, midwives\, allied health professionals\, healthcare scientists\, pharmacists\, and psychologists (NMAHPPs) \nWe are excited to announce the upcoming NMAHPPs Research Careers Showcase being hosted by the NIHR Oxford Health BRC and taking place online on Wednesday\, 21 January 2026\, from 10:00 to 13:00. \nThis inspiring event will bring together clinicians and researchers to explore how engaging in research can shape the future of healthcare and open new opportunities for career development. The aim of the showcase is to: \n\nInspire you to see how research can be part of your professional journey\nConnect you with colleagues and role models who are already making an impact\nExplore the skills\, support\, and pathways available to get started\n\nWe have secured the attendance of Professor Anne-Maree Keenan\, currently Chair of Applied Health Research\, University of Leeds and Academic Capacity Development Lead for the NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). Anne -Maree’s involvement as an Associate Dean of the NIHR Academy has led to her willingness to deliver our keynote address.  In this\, she aims to convey the significant rise of healthcare professionals undertaking research\, why this is important both for healthcare and the career development of the workforce and what we need to do to embed research in roles. \nYou can now register to attend here. \nMore details\, including the programme and speakers\, will follow soon. \n\nWhat? NMAHPPs Research Career Showcase\nWhat date? Wednesday 21 January 2026\nWhat time? 10:00 – 13:00\nWhere? Online  (we will invite registrations shortly and ensure links are then provided to allow online participation)\n\n

SUMMARY:Masterclass: Clinical Trials and Health Systems Data
DESCRIPTION:Clinical trials are essential for evaluating new treatments\, and there is growing interest in harnessing health systems data (HSD) to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness. HSD can offer researchers and trialists valuable opportunities to streamline key processes such as identifying eligible participants\, monitoring trial progress in real time\, enabling remote follow-up and capturing outcomes. Yet\, its use also presents challenges\, as researchers must navigate complex regulatory and legal frameworks that can hinder broader adoption. \nAim: In this masterclass series\, we aim to explore how HSD can advance clinical research\, with a particular focus on decentralized and large simple trials. By examining the challenges and sharing lessons learned\, the talks will highlight practical strategies\, methodological considerations and opportunities to strengthen the integration of HSD into trial design and execution. \nA further hands-on session relevant to all clinical trial roles particularly DPhils and ECRs will explore some useful resources and skills for researchers to develop and optimise their trial design. \nMore information and agenda here.  \nLink to booking form. \nPlease note registrations close on Monday 26 January 2026 at midday
