SUMMARY:World Sleep Day at the John Radcliffe Hospital
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate World Sleep Day 2024\, researchers in the University of Oxford  Experimental and Clinical Sleep Medicine team are joining forces with the clinical sleep team based at the John Radcliffe Hospital\, on the ground floor of the West Wing\, to run a day of activities and workshops for staff and the public. \nThere will be a wide variety of activities\, ranging from quizzes that aim to combat sleep myths and live polysomnography recording\, to artwork that focuses on dreaming. \nThe team have prepared posters about why we sleep\, and how to sleep better\, as well as fun workshops. These involve making plasticine brains\, and testing reaction time compared to how sleepy you are. \nThe team hopes to promote awareness about the importance of sleep through an engaging and exciting event.

DESCRIPTION:The Oxford and Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centres are holding a workshop for researchers and PPI staff to improve race inclusion in research. \nThe workshop will be from 10.30-3.30pm on 7th March 2024 at the Blavatnik School of Government\, 120 Walton St\, Oxford OX2 6GG. \nPlease fill out the following form if you would like to attend by Monday 19 February: https://forms.office.com/e/1jUsS6S9GS \nPlaces are limited – there are about 30 spaces for researchers and 15 for PPI leads. \nThis workshop will be led by facilitators from Open Edge. Training on the NIHR toolkits and guidance will be provided. SUMMARY:NIHR LGBTQ+ Staff Network launch meeting
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce the launch of the NIHR LGBTQ+ Staff Network. The NIHR LGBTQ+ Staff Network is open to all staff working as part of NIHR (such as staff in coordinating centres\, LCRN core teams\, delivery staff in LCRN partner organisations and staff in NIHR infrastructure eg. ARCs and BRCs) who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community or as allies. The focus of the Network has been shaped by many of the 120 people who responded to the expression of interest which went out last year and will include peer support and wellbeing; social and community activities; development and training; LGBTQ+ research inclusion and communications and engagement. \nThe launch meeting for the Network will be held virtually on 7 February from 11am to 12pm\, where the process will start to put together the Coordinating Committee\, share key information about the Network and allow members opportunities to connect with each other. \nIf you are interested in joining the mailing list for the NIHR LGBTQ+ Staff Network and would like to be invited to attend the launch meeting on 7 February and future meetings\, please complete this short form.

In this talk\, Professor Michele Hu will explain how research has shown that people with REM sleep behaviour disorder often go on to develop Parkinson’s more than a decade later. DESCRIPTION:The Autumn Science Lecture series invites distinguished academics to deliver lectures on plant sciences and related areas of research. These lectures are online and are free for all to attend. \nThe twin key environmental challenges of our times are to stabilise our climate system and reverse the decline of biodiversity. Tropical forests play an important role in addressing both these challenges. Professor Yadvinder Malhi\, Professor of Ecosystem Science at the University of Oxford\, will explore what role tropical forests play in the Earth System and will discuss the interaction between tropical forests and climate change\, highlighting some of his team’s recent research that combines detailed field data collection with satellite remote sensing. These lectures are online and are free for all to attend. \nKatherine Willis CBE is Professor of Biodiversity at the University of Oxford and is Principal of St Edmund Hall. She is also a crossbench peer in the House of Lords. Her research falls into two categories. First\, she aims to understand how plant biodiversity responds\, over time and space\, from years to millions of years and from local to global scales\, to climate change and other environmental drivers. DESCRIPTION:18\, 19 and 20 October 2023 \nThis three-day Academic Paper Writing Retreat is sponsored by the Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre (BRC)\, Oxford cognitive health Clinical Research Facility (CRF)\, and the Oxford Institute for Nursing\, Midwifery and Allied Health Research (OxInAHR). \nIt is open to all nurses and AHPs at any career stage\, working at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust\, OxInAHR or Oxford Brookes University who have a paper to write up for submission to an academic journal and need time and space to focus on this without interruption. \nWe ask that delegates who attend commit to the full three days (£50 deposit required to a secure place\, refundable after attending all 3 days)\, and that you come with a clear writing goal and a specific material outcome that you wish to achieve.
