
Professor Rachel Upthegrove (MBE, MBBS, FRCPsych, PhD) is Director of Oxford Health BRC. She is Professor of Psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford, and continues to hold a position as Professor of Psychiatry and Youth Mental Health at the University of Birmingham. She works clinically as a consultant psychiatrist in the Birmingham Early Intervention in Psychosis Services.
Her research interest is in the identification of underlying mechanisms and treatment opportunities for early phases of severe mental illness, with focus on multi-morbidity and transdiagnostic symptoms. Recent projects include the investigation of inflammatory targets as potential for novel treatments, and the use of multi-modal data science to aid stratification in the heterogeneous, early phases of developing mental ill health.
