A member of the Oxford Health BRC Preventing Multiple Morbidites theme’s patient and public involvement group has shared his thoughts on healthcare guidance on exercise to improve mental health.
Julian is also one of the Lived Experience Advisory Panel members for the McPin Foundation, an organisation which conducts research informed by those with a lived experience of mental health conditions.
Julian spoke about the barriers that some people with mental health conditions may have to exercise such as sensory overload and physical disability and suggests that some are faced with the decision to choose between prioritising their physical or mental health.
Julian stated that there is more to be done by healthcare practitioners to offer movement alternatives for those who cannot or will not follow the standard exercise and movement guidance.
