NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre (OH BRC) has launched a dedicated page showcasing the profiles of Nurses, Midwives, Allied Health Professionals, Pharmacists, and Psychologists (NMAHPPs) who are driving mental and brain health research.
The new NMAHPPs Staff Profiles page highlights the diverse roles and inspiring journeys of healthcare professionals who combine clinical expertise with research innovation at OH BRC.
NMAHPPs play a vital role in shaping mental health and community care research. Their contributions ensure that studies reflect real-world practice and improve outcomes for patients and their families.
Professor Cathy Creswell, OH BRC Mental Health in Development Theme Lead and Professor of Developmental Clinical Psychology in the University of Oxford’s Experimental Psychology and Psychiatry departments commented:
“My research mainly focuses on the development, maintenance, prevention and treatment of anxiety disorders in children and young people. My team apply a broad range of methods… with children, young people and families in both community and clinical settings, with the aim of improving access to and outcomes from psychological treatments for these common conditions.”
The profiles highlight the breadth of ongoing research, from clinical trials to community research including prison-based studies addressing health inequalities.
Dr Elystan Roberts, Research Fellow in OH BRC Psychological Treatments Theme explained:
“I am interested in understanding and preventing suicide among mental health inpatients. I am currently using national survey data, as well as conducting qualitative interviews with patients and staff, to better understand what factors lead to suicide attempts and how we can treat patients more effectively.”
The creation of this page aligns with OH BRC’s commitment to developing clinical academic pathways for NMAHPPs. It provides visibility for those already engaged in research and encourages others to explore opportunities through training, secondments and mentorship.
Andreia Costa, Project Manager for Training & Career Development at OH BRC said: “Showcasing these profiles demonstrates the incredible talent within our BRC and the impact of collaborative research. We hope this new resource. inspires more nurses, midwives AHPs, pharmacists, and psychologists to consider research as part of their career.”
