NIHR launches new race equality in health research framework

9th August 2021

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) have launched a new framework developed by their Race Equality Public Action Group (REPAG) to assess how current policies, practices and organisational culture could be changed to better serve diverse communities and ultimately improve healthcare delivery.

This framework will be trialed by 16 organisations over the next three months, including NIHR Oxford Heath Biomedical Research Centre and the NIHR Oxford cognitive health Clinical Research Facility (CRF).

The trial will lead to the development of NIHR’s work to address current inequities in research, including the fact that the ethnic diversity of those who participate in clinical research does not always reflect the wider population affected by the issue being researched.

This is ahead of a wider rollout of the final framework in spring 2022, which all research organisations will be encouraged to adopt. Read the full story here.

We will provide regular updates on work in this area over the coming months.
