Grade 6 (equivalent to 0.5 FTE over 4-months; hours can be spread flexibly within and beyond the 4-month window in agreement with the Principal Investigator).
This post, based in the Translational Neuropsychology research group and supervised by Dr Andrea Kusec, offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to research focused on improving mental health care options in neurological populations within the UK, entitled the “Neuro-Wellbeing” programme.
The Research Assistant will support the successful running of a co-production project on developing an upskilling programme to train UK health care professionals to support poor mental health in adults with brain injuries such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, and resected brain tumours.
This role would involve speaking with brain injury survivors who may have mood difficulties, as well as health care professionals (e.g., psychologists, speech language therapists, occupational therapists) working in neurological settings.
This role would be well suited to those pursuing clinical psychology training, postgraduate training in mental health research, or researchers interested in learning about mental health in neurological conditions and/or qualitative research. The role would involve recruitment of participants, conducting data collection, supporting analysis, and write up of results.
Requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Medical sciences or related discipline
- Existing staff (can be part time/variable work/casual work) or student within the University
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Strong data management skills
- Ability to work independently and within the team
- Methodological knowledge of, or experience in, qualitative research (e.g., conducting semi-structured interviews, qualitative analysis)
- Experience working with patient populations/vulnerable populations
- Desirable criteria: Experience working with neurological populations
Supervision will be provided on project methods and working with patient populations.
This post has the potential to increase to 0.9 FTE with other funds becoming available in May 2025.
