
MQ is the UK’s leading mental health research charity and it has launched its new grant round for funding for a Fellowship award.
The MQ Fellows Award empowers exceptional early-career scientists worldwide to tackle bold questions in mental health research, aiming to retain top talent and foster greater diversity in the field. The award provides up to £250,000 over three years to support early-career mental health researchers, covering salary, staff, research costs, travel, and training
The areas that MQ is interested in are:
Mental health of children and young people
They welcome research on early identification and prevention, access to care, and the development of age-appropriate interventions. They are particularly interested in:
- Digital technology use in youth mental health
- Co-morbid mental and physical health conditions
- Integrated and transitional care pathways from child to adult services
Eating disorders
They seek proposals focused on:
- Early identification and prevention
- Improving access to effective, evidence-based treatment
- Understanding which interventions offer the most sustainable outcomes
- Tackling treatment disparities
Digital and emerging technologies in mental health
This includes:
- Mobile apps, online platforms, and digital therapeutics
- Use of AI in diagnosis, treatment personalisation, and decision-making
- Ethical issues, data privacy, and integration into health systems
- Use of wearables for early detection and monitoring
Suicide and self-harm
Priority areas include:
- Protective factors and prevention strategies
- The role of social media and digital environments
- Lifespan trajectories of self-harming behaviour
- Physical health comorbidities and co-occurring conditions
- Improving early identification and reducing disparities through targeted interventions
