Dr Asha Ladwa, NIHR Mental Health Translational Research Collaboration (MH-TRC) Mission Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Research Psychologist at the University of Exeter’s Mood Disorders Centre has shared her experience of taking part in the MH-TRC Mission Capacity Development Postdoctoral Research Fellowship.
The MH-TRC Mission Capacity Development workstream aims to expand the mental health research workforce, enhance research capability, and support the delivery of MH-TRC Mission objectives. A total of £3.4 million has so far been spent to facilitate the growth of research-active clinicians and professionals including research fellows.
“My MH-TRC Mission Capacity Development Postdoctoral Research Fellowship has provided a vital platform to explore and address service gaps in the treatment of difficult-to-treat depression. I have established the South West Mental Health Gap Practice Research Network which brings together experts-by-experience, clinicians, and researchers to understand effective ways to support patients who fall between existing psychological support services.
“Through this work, I have led several projects evaluating the delivery of psychological therapies within NHS services. Additionally, I have gained invaluable experience as Principal Investigator on a national trial delivering psychological therapy in NHS Talking Therapies services via a novel digital platform developed in partnership with industry.
“This fellowship has enabled me to strengthen my clinical research leadership and cross-sector collaboration skills, laying a strong foundation for the development of my future independent research programme. ”
