Do you have or work with children under 5 years?
Are you a professional or researcher interested in child development?
Your voice is needed to help shape the future of research into early childhood development.
The Developing Child UK Research Priority Setting Partnership, led by University of Oxford’s Department of Social Policy and Intervention Professor Jane Barlow and Dr Michael Fanner, and officially endorsed by the NIHR James Lind Alliance, has launched its first national survey to identify the most important research questions about babies’ and young children’s development.
This initiative is part of the Supporting Early Minds Research Network, which sits within the Mental Health in Development Theme at Oxford Health BRC. It aims to ensure that future research reflects the real-world needs and priorities of those who care for and work with young children.
Who should take part?
The survey is open to:
- Parents and caregivers of children under 5
- Anyone working or volunteering with families during pregnancy or early childhood
- Academics, researchers, and healthcare professionals with an interest in child development

Why it matters
Early childhood is a critical period for lifelong health and wellbeing. By sharing your views, you’ll help ensure that future research addresses the real-world needs of families and professionals alike.
Please share the survey widely across your networks and encourage others to take part.
The more voices we hear, the stronger and more relevant the research priorities will be.
