Partner with the NIHR Mental Health Translational Research Collaboration
The NIHR Mental Health Translational Research Collaboration (MH-TRC) was established in 2017 as a collaborative group across several academic centres with NIHR infrastructure and significant expertise in early phase research in mental health.
On 1 April 2024, the MH-TRC consisted of 20 partners, in a collaboration that spans the four nations of the UK with focused themes: Biobanking, ‘Omics and the NIHR Bioresource; Children and Young People’s Mental Health; Data and Digital; Early Psychosis, Mood Disorders and Substance Use and Addiction with core support of Capacity and Development and PPIEP. From 2023 the MH-TRC has been leading and delivering the Mental Health Mission (MHM) to support innovation in mental health research, services, and digital technology.
The MH-TRC MHM aims to deliver an improved environment in which commercial partners can come to develop, test and trial new interventions. We partner with companies to accelerate the development of new interventions to diagnose, monitor and treat mental ill-health. We seek to identify and help solve problems that currently slow and disincentivise research such as issues with research capability, patient recruitment and contracting.
The UK is a key location to conduct innovative mental health research. By bringing together the UK research base, full national NHS coverage and partnership with industry (defined as pharmaceutical, digital, digitally enhanced or supported, and technological) and regulators the MH-TRC will unlock the full potential for the UK to drive both improvements in population mental health and economic growth.
The NIHR funds Biomedical and HealthTech Research Centres across the UK which are well placed to connect with companies in the MedTech and digital space. The MH-TRC provides additional capacity for relationship development with relevant MedTech and digital health companies, and the capacity to connect these companies (where suitable) to Research Centres across the UK.
