Introduction
NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC): Oxford Health recognises that many externally sourced datasets and biobanks, while invaluable for research, can have limitations in how well they represent the diverse populations affected by the health conditions we study. This position statement sets out our approach to acknowledging and addressing those limitations, supporting transparent and inclusive research practice.
The statement was developed in response to discussions across BRC senior leadership and was shaped through consultation with the Theme EDI Network, Theme Leads, and the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Operations Group. It was subsequently reviewed and approved by the BRC: Oxford Health Steering Committee, ensuring robust governance and oversight.
