This talk explores the evolution of survival analysis techniques in clinical trials, highlighting their crucial role in medical research. We will start with traditional methods like Kaplan-Meier estimates and Cox proportional hazards models, foundational tools for analysing time-to-event data. The discussion will then advance to contemporary approaches, focusing on time-homogeneous and inhomogeneous multi-state Markov models. These models offer a nuanced view of patient trajectories through different health states, providing deeper insights into disease progression and treatment efficacy. Attendees will gain a good understanding of both conventional and cutting-edge techniques for time-to-event analysis, enhancing their ability to design and interpret them in clinical trials
