This page provides resources and guidance for researchers engaging with our Living Lab network. Whether you are planning a study or exploring collaboration opportunities, the following tools and frameworks are available to support your research:
Resources Available
- Risk and Mitigation Templates:
Access templates designed to assess potential risks and outline mitigation strategies tailored for Living Lab sites. Templates include site-specific considerations, safeguarding, and governance alignment. - Site Evaluation Framework:
Use our site evaluation template to review factors such as accessibility, inclusion, ecological impact, and institutional requirements. - Living Lab Flowchart (Preview available):
A step-by-step guide to the development process, including gatekeeper identification, risk assessments, and ongoing monitoring requirements.
Access and Gatekeeping
Due to safeguarding, institutional, and ethical requirements, access to detailed site-specific resources and templates is restricted. Researchers must:
- Submit an initial expression of interest, including study objectives.
- Work with designated gatekeepers to secure site access.
- Align proposals with project governance and ethical frameworks (DPA/DPIA/CUREC).
Please email jessica.frater@psych.ox.ac.uk to discuss access and to receive tailored support.
Flowcharts and Templates
While full access requires approval, researchers can preview the Living Lab Risk Mitigation Flowchart below to understand the study planning process.

Considerations for Research Design
When planning a study within the Living Lab network, keep the following in mind:
- Research Outcomes: Define clear, realistic outputs for ecological and mental health research.
- Resource Constraints: Schools and other partners may have limited capacity, so tailor expectations accordingly.
- Network vs. Entity: Decide whether your research views Living Labs as independent sites or part of an interconnected network.
- Ecological Impact: Include ecological assessments in line with ethical frameworks (E-Co-Flo, CUREC).
- Scaling and Governance: Account for both site size and organisational capacity to manage collaboration.
