Researchers are encouraged to apply for the next round of the NIHR Senior Investigators, an award which recognises substantial leadership contribution within the NIHR research community.
NIHR Senior Investigator status is awarded to researchers based on the quality and volume of internationally excellent research, its relevance to patients and the public, and its impact on improvements in healthcare and public health. Other criteria include research leadership, engagement with patients and the public and with healthcare policymakers.
They receive £20,000 per year for four years to fund activities that support their research. They also provide visible leadership and expected to act at NIHR ambassadors.
Oxford Health BRC Colleagues previously appointed as NIHR Senior Investigators include Professor Kam Bhui, Professor of Psychiatry in the University of Oxford Department of Psychiatry and Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) lead at Oxford Health BRC and Professor Cathy Cresswell, Professor of Developmental Clinical Psychology in the University of Oxford Experimental Psychology department and Oxford Health BRC Mental Health in Development Theme Lead.
Eligibility
Applicants should be leading researchers funded by the NIHR and based in England. To be eligible, applicants must:
- have made a substantial contribution to the NIHR with ongoing contribution planned
- have part or all their salary funded as a research cost from the NIHR
- have current, active and eligible NIHR funding at the time of application, which must extend beyond 30 June 2025
- be employed by an organisation based in England
- be undertaking high quality and internationally leading applied health, public health or social care research
Applications must be made through the online application system before the closing date in August 2024. Applicants will be notified in February 2025 and will start the role on 1 April 2025.
