Researchers from Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre have led on a study into the real-world effects of antidepressants in adults in England.
Over 673,000 people diagnosed with depressive disorders took part in the study which assessed the short-term and long-term effects of antidepressants at 2 months and 12 months following the initial prescription.
The study found that the acceptability of antidepressants was low, tolerability and safety was good and small to moderately effective.
Depression affects more than 300 million people worldwide and in England antidepressants were prescribed to 7.87 million people from 2020 to 2021.
